titleOfInvention Improvements in projectiles
abstract 275,822. Blanarovits, A., and Hovora, P. Oct. 21, 1926. Projectiles. - Relates to projectiles charged with a material or materials adapted to produce smoke or flame to indicate the trajectory of the projectile, and consists in delaying the appearance of the smoke or flame for a predetermined time by means of a preliminary charge of material producing no flame or smoke, which must first escape before the smoke or Same-producing material can pass out. In the form shown in Fig. 1, a charge of beeswax or other fat e<1> first escapes through an outlet e<2>, after which a charge of red phosphorus d<1> escapes through the same outlet, both charges being melted by the heat due to the discharge of the projectile. In a modification, Fig. 2, plugs d and i are melted by the heat of discharge and allow charges of fat f, h to escape, after which a charge of red phosphorus e and a charge of ammonium bichromate or sodium thiosulphate g, which have also been melted, mix together and escape at the bottom of the projectile where they produce a flame. Suitable fats for the charges f, h are beeswax, carnauba wax, Japan wax, and paraffin wax, and these materials serve also for the plugs i. The plugs d are of an alloy of low melting point such as amalgam.
