titleOfInvention Improvements relating to the ornamentation of artificial silk fabrics
abstract 275,357. Calico Printers' Association, Ltd., and Whinfield, J. R. May 25, 1926. Liquids, treating with; designs, producing. - Pattern effects are produced on fabrics containing cellulose, acetate silk by printing thereon a. salt of a, delustring-agent for cellulose acetate, and subsequently treating with hot dilute mineral acid or alkali according as the delustring-agent is acidic or basic, to decompose the salt and set free, the delustring-agent; the parts subjected to the action of the delustring-agent become dull or matt. Alternatively the fabric may be printed with a resist and then padded or printed with the delustring-medium. Suitable delustring- agents are phenolic bodies and aromatic bases such as aniline and pyridine; in examples, these are employed as sodium phenolate and aniline hydrochloride. If the delustring-agent is acidic, then a small excess of free alkali may be added to the printing paste, or alternatively free alkali may be added to the resist; in such cases the printed portions are saponified so as to possess a differential affinity for substantive dyestuffs ; the dyestuffs may be added to the printing paste or to the resist. Specification 266,777 is referred to.
