titleOfInvention An improved method of preparing an acid of the phtalic series esters of the said acid, and combinations of these ester with azoic derivatives
abstract 273,765. Fodor, A., (Assignees of Chesnais, A.). July 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Phthalamic acid esters are prepared by adding aqueous ammonia to phthalic anhydride, treating the product with alkali or alkaline earth hydroxide to form a phthalamate, and esterifying with an alcohol in the presence of sulphuric acid. Esters with methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, amyl, isoamyl, and benzyl alcohols are specifically mentioned. By combination of these esters with derivatives of p-aminobenzoic acid, e.g. p-aminobenzoyldiethylaminoethanol, products possessing anaesthetic properties are obtained.
