abstract | 270,650. Canadian Electro Products Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Matheson, H. W.). May 4, 1926, [Convention date]. Plastic compositions containing cellulose nitrate.-Nitro-cellulose solutions and plastics are made with an ester of mandelic acid as plastifier, with or without other plastifiers. Pigments, dyes and resins may be added. The solvents mentioned are alcohol, butyl acetate, amyl acetate, ethyl acetate and ethyl lactate, and the plastifiers which may be used in addition are camphor and di-butyl phthalate. Diluents may also be employed. In an example 100 parts of pyroxyline is mixed with 40 parts of ethyl mandelate and 60 parts of alcohol with heating to obtain a plastic which is rolled, pressed into blocks and cut into sheets which, after seasoning, are polished between heated plates. Instead of ethyl mandelate the other aliphatic or aromatic esters of mandelic acid may be employed. |
