titleOfInvention Process for the production of 2-amido-4-nitrophenoxyethanol or -propandiol
abstract 263,191. Chemical Works, formerly Sandoz. Dec. 19, 1925, [Convention date]. 2-Amino-4-nitrophenoxy-ethanol orpropandiol, which may be used for the preparation of dyestuffs, are obtained by treating 2: 4-dinitrophenoxy-ethanol or -propandiol with reducing agents, in particular with alkali sulphides or polysulphides. In an example, 2: 4-dinitrophenoxypropandiol is warmed with sodium tetrasulphide; on cooling and neutralizing, an orange precipitate of the nitramine is formed. This is freed from sulphur by dissolving in hydrochloric acid; the base may then be precipitated with soda, and recrystallized from water. The corresponding nitroaminoethanol may be similarly obtained from 2 : 4-dinitrophenoxyethanol. 2:4-Dinitrophenoxyethanol is made by heating 2 : 4-dinitrochlorbenzene with glycol and soda.
