Kit, apparatus and method for a portable nucleic acid assay |
abstract |
A portable or point-of-care kit for sensing biological samples at home comprising: a sampling swab 301; a first nucleic acid assay chamber 304 comprising nucleic acid assay reagents; a second nucleic acid assay chamber 303 containing control reaction reagents; a heating reaction chamber (Fig. 1, 104) for receiving the first nucleic acid assay chamber 304 and comprising heat activation reagents (Fig. 1, 103); and an insulated housing (Fig. 1, 108) for receiving the heating reaction chamber 104. The kit may comprise a cap 309 containing assay reagents which are released into the first chamber 304 when the cap is turned 308. The heat activation reagents 103 may be a heat pack or an exothermic chemical mixture. The kit may also comprise a cell lysis buffer for mixing with the sampling swab 301. The two assay chambers may be formed from a reaction tube 302 that is split into two compartments. The kit may further comprise a printed barcode; printed instructions and a test chart; a timer; and a printed QR code. Also claimed is a method of detecting a biological sample using a portable nucleic acid device. The results of the nucleic acid assay are compared to a control. |
