abstract The apparatus provides a flow of gases to a patient and comprises a controller configured to control delivery of gases to the patient using closed loop control which is configured to deliver a nasal high flow (NHF) gases flow to the patient, receive data from at least one patient sensor indicative of a measured oxygen saturation (SpO2) of the patient, receive data indicative of a measured fraction of delivered oxygen (FdO2) of the gases flow, determine an oxygen efficiency of the patient and generate a patient specific model using the determined oxygen efficiency of the patient.
