A Raman spectroscopy probe has an elongate body 10. The body 10 has a lumen, i.e. passageway/ through hole/ bore, for receiving an elongate instrument 32. The instrument 32 can be slidably received or can be permanently fixed in the lumen. Raman fibres are arranged outside the lumen, e.g. illumination 28 and collection 30 fibres coaxially surround the bore. Optionally, a single type of fibre may surround the lumen instead and a multiplexer or time-division switch (76, Fig. 11) may switch the function of that fibre between illuminating and collecting. The instrument 32 can be an (endoscopic) surgical instrument, an endoscopic camera. Also disclosed is an electrosurgical device (Fig. 16) having a passageway for receiving an elongate instrument 32. The electrosurgical device is for radiating electromagnetic energy for tissue treatment. It has a tuning element for shaping e.g. microwave radiation. The instrument 32 can be a Raman spectroscopy probe. |
