Hot water tank safety |
abstract |
A hot water tank 3B pressurised by a cold mains water supply 1B, the tank having a safety relief valve 7B arranged to discharge water from the tank based on a safety condition such as pressure or temperature. A heat exchanger 8B subsequently exchanges heat between the hot water discharge and the cold mains supply. The cooling of the discharge allows for the use of pipe exiting the heat exchange to be constructed of materials which cannot withstand higher temperatures, e.g. PVC. There may be a tundish 10B arranged in the discharge line for a user to visually detect expelled water. There may be a pressure reducing valve 2B and expansion vessel 4B located upstream of the tank. The hot water container may be unvented. A method of safely discharging water from a tank is also claimed. |
