abstract An antiviral composition comprising ground edible acorns or a solvent extract from ground edible acorns (GEAs), wherein the content of polyphenols or gallic acid is from 1-15 % w/w. The range of polyphenols or gallic acid may be 3-12 % w/w, or may be 6.7-8 % w/w. The polyphenols may comprise flavonoids, such as quercetin. The GEAs may be particles with a mass median diameter no greater than 0.25 mm. The composition may comprise dextrin or microcrystalline cellulose, where either are in a ratio to the GEAs from 1:10 to 1:1, and may also further comprise a magnesium salt of one or more fatty acids, where the combined dextrin, microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium salt of a fatty acid are in a ratio to the GEAs from 1:10 to 1:1. The composition may be in the form of a drink, comprising an aqueous extract of GEAs, and may further comprise a fruit juice comprising polyphenols. Also provided is a method of preparing a liquid antiviral composition, and a method of preparing a cookie dough composition. Also provided is a capsule or tablet for delivery of the antiviral composition, which may have 50-600 mg of polyphenols.
