An ink comprises graphene or graphene oxide particles dispersed in a carrier, wherein a viral active or antimicrobial component is adhered to the particles. Typically, the viral active or antimicrobial component comprises metal ions or nanoparticles (especially silver nanoparticles), curcumin, or hypericin and may comprise a capping agent, e.g. polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, or EDTA. The carrier may be a solvent and the nanoparticles may be 1-100 nm in size. The surface of the graphene or graphene oxide may be functionalised with thiol, hydroxyl, carboxyl, epoxy, or carbonyl groups. In another aspect, an article comprises a substrate having a coating that comprises a viral active or antimicrobial component on graphene or graphene oxide particles. The article may be a filter or a face mask. Use of a composition comprising a viral active component adhered to graphene or graphene oxide particles as an antiviral or viricide for Sars-CoV-2 is also claimed. |
