A non-planar polycrystalline diamond body has a convex or concave dome body having an apex and an outer periphery is formed by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) onto a silicon or graphite substrate. The body may be non-circular and non-spherical (figs 7a-8c). The body may be used a diaphragm for a loudspeaker or a microphone. The dome body has an average radius of curvature in a range of 4 mm to 25 mm and a maximum linear dimension at the outer periphery of the dome body of no more than 26 mm. The average radius of curvature is no less than 0.6 times the maximum linear dimension at the outer periphery. Other ranges of values are specified for other parameters, e.g. thickness, thickness variation, mass, segment angle φ, break-up frequency, dome height A method of fabricating the non-planar diamond body is also disclosed. |
