titleOfInvention | HTS linked partial insulation for HTS field coils |
abstract | A high temperature superconducting (HTS) field coil (figure 4) comprises a plurality of turns of an HTS material and metallic stabiliser and a partially insulating layer (figure 10) separating the turns. This allows current to be shared between turns via the partially insulating layer. The partially insulating layer comprises an insulating region 1002 and a plurality of electrically conductive paths 1010 through the insulating region 1002, wherein current can be shared between the turns via the electrically conductive paths 1010. Each electrically conductive path 1010 comprises an HTS bridge 1003 comprising HTS material, wherein each HTS bridge 1003 is in series with normally conducting material 1001, 1004, 1005 of the electrically conductive path 1010. The electrically conductive paths 1010 may be spaced evenly along the partially insulating layer (figure 10). |
