titleOfInvention | Flushing devices and methods |
abstract | A system 100 for flushing a medical device, system 100 comprising a multi-port valve 103 for controlling the delivery of flushing fluids. Multiport-valve 103 is connected to: a pressurised flushing gas source 101; a fluid outlet 117 for coupling the flushing fluids to the medical device; and a pump 121 connected to fluid outlet 117. Multiport-valve 103 in a first configuration couples a gas flow from the pressurised flushing gas source 101 to the fluid outlet 117, and in a second configuration, multiport-valve 103 couples a gas flow from the pressurised flushing gas source 101 to drive the pump 121 so providing a flushing liquid flow to fluid outlet 117. Preferably, the flushing gas is one selected from carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide, and chlorine. The flushing gas may be ammonia, the flushing liquid being saline. Also, a method of flushing a medical device comprising flushing the medical device with a gas from a pressurised source and flushing the medical device with a liquid provided by a pump driven by a flow of gas from the pressurised source. Preferably, the flushing gas is an acidic gas and the flushing liquid is a buffer solution, where flushing liquid may be pH-adjusted. |
