titleOfInvention | Method for removing a degraded component from a hydrocarbon fluid and a porous medium for achieving the same |
abstract | A porous medium for removing a degraded component from a hydrocarbon fluid; wherein the porous medium comprises a crosslinked polystyrene having a BET pore volume of 0.6 mL/g and a surface area of 500-900 m2/g as determined in accordance with ISO 9277:2010. The porous medium can be non-ionic, being free of any cationic and anionic functionality. Preferably, the porous medium has an average pore size of 5-18 nm. Also disclosed is a method for removing a degraded component from a hydrocarbon fluid which includes directing the hydrocarbon fluid to the porous medium to produce a purified fluid with a reduced amount of degraded component, removing the purified fluid from the porous medium, and then regenerating the porous medium using acetone, methanol, ethanol, propanol or butanol. The hydrocarbon fluid may be directed to a filter section of the first porous medium, wherein there are multiple porous mediums. The method may also include stopping the hydrocarbon flow to the first filter after an amount of time and directing it to a second. A second porous medium can comprise cotton, activated carbon, a zeolite or a crosslinked polymer. A facility, which may also comprise a third filter section, is also described. |
