abstract | Receiving data transmitted by a plurality of communications devices comprises receiving at each of a plurality of antennas (302, 304, 306, 308) reference signals transmitted by each of a plurality of communications devices, and processing by each of a plurality of antenna modules (312, 314, 316, 318) the reference signals. The reference signal may be a channel state indicator (CSI). The processing by each of the antenna modules includes estimating for each of the detected reference signals a sample of a radio channel through which the received signals have passed, generating for each of the samples of the radio channel a partial matrix for forming a part of an equalisation matrix for performing zero forcing equalisation of the received signals, and transmitting the partial matrices from each of the antenna modules to a central processing unit 320. The central processing unit detects the data from the received radio signals using an equalisation matrix formed by combining the partial matrices from each of the antenna modules. This partially decentralised approach in a MIMO system reduces interconnection bandwidth limitations for baseband data transfer. |
