abstract |
A translucent polycrystalline cubic boron nitride body is provided. It comprises no more than 2 weight % hexagonal boron nitride grains and has an absorption coefficient of less than 100 cm-1 at a wavelength of 1064 nm or at 350nm. A method of manufacturing a translucent polycrystalline cubic boron nitride body is also disclosed, the method comprising providing a green body of hexagonal boron nitride particles and subjecting the green body to a sintering process at a pressure of at least 7.7GPa and a temperature of at least 2100ÂșC to convert the hexagonal boron nitride to form the translucent polycrystalline cubic boron nitride material. |
