A method of updating landmarks in image-guided surgical navigation. A planar view image of a region of interest including a landmark is captured and a depth map is generated using the planar view image. A current location of the landmark 820 in the common coordinate space is identified. The existing landmark registration 810 in the coordinate space is transformed/updated to the current location of the landmark feature 820. The depth map may be generated from stereoscopic images, by touch point identification, or a focus or contrast sweep. The coordinate space is three-dimensional coordinate space. The landmark location may only be updated if the transform shifts the existing landmark registration beyond a threshold position limit. If a landmark is not determined to be in the region of interest, the field of view is increased to identify the landmark. |
