titleOfInvention | Phase contrast microscope test slide for airborne asbestos analysis |
abstract | A test slide for testing the asbestos detection limit of a phase contrast microscope. The test slide comprises a series of devices 6 comprising a plurality of phase objects (11, Fig. 3 or Fig. 4) formed by nanometre fabrication techniques (e.g. nanolithography) and a cover slip 7. The plurality of phase objects has a single phase angle in the range of 2˚-8˚. The phase objects are further arranged in the centre of concentric eye guides (10, Fig. 3 or 12, Fig. 4). The concentric guides may be adjacent to macro (13, Fig. 4) and micro identification marks. There may be at least three devices and the single-phase angle of the phase object thereon may be 1.7, 2.5, 3.0, 3.6, 4.4, 5.3, 6.2 and 7.4; plus, or minus 0.2 degrees. The phase objects may be etched lines, of 20-360 nm length and 0.5-1.5 μm width, situated at an interface between a first material e.g. quartz and a second material e.g. PMMA, the first and second materials having different refractive indices. The test slide may comprise: top slide portion 2 with a cut-out 8 and a bottom slide portion 3 with a smaller cut-out 9 that allows light to pass through the phase objects when they are situated in the recess formed by the cut-outs. |
