titleOfInvention Sensor calibration system
abstract A calibration electrode contacts an analyte. The electrode comprises a redox species to control an analyte environment local to the electrode. A voltammetric signal applied to the electrode produces oxidation or reduction of the redox species, generating an oxidation or reduction current controlled by the environment. A calibration potential corresponding to a feature of the current in embodiments, a maximum potential corresponding to a maximum of an oxidation current or minimum of a reduction current is used to calibrate a potentiometric sensor. The redox species may comprise acidic or alkali groups, may be anthraquinone, and may create an acidic or basic environment, i.e. control hydrogen ion concentration. The potentiometric sensor may be a glass electrode or ISFET, or be a potentiometric sensor for measuring a specific ion. A calibration-reference electrode, perhaps a reference electrode of the potentiometric sensor, may be provided. Drift of a reference electrode can be corrected thereby.
