abstract |
A method of crystallising a macromolecule comprises the step of adding a functionalised carbon material to a crystallisation sample comprising said macromolecule, wherein the functionalised carbon material comprises at least one chemical species covalently bonded to the carbon material, wherein the chemical species comprises a polymeric component. The polymeric component may be polyethylene glycol and may have a number average molecular weight of at least 0.2 kDa. The carbon material may comprise graphite nanoplatelets or graphene. A method of determining the structure of a macromolecule is also disclosed and comprises the steps of: crystallising the macromolecule in the presence of the functionalised carbon material outlined above; and analysing the crystal structure produced. |
