A magnetic rod guide 28 for a filter (10, fig 1, 5, 6), the guide comprising a base 28b for attachment to part of a filter, a through aperture 34 through which a magnetic rod (38, fig 4) can move, and resilient engagement means for holding the magnetic rod in one or more fixed positions relative to the guide. Preferably, a body 24 extends away from the base, through which the aperture extends. The resilient engagement means may comprise a resilient latch 36, formed in the body and having a projection 36a extending inwardly thereof. Also defined as a magnetic rod 38 which is substantially cylindrical and has engagement means (42, 48, fig 4) for engaging with the resilient engagement means of the guide. Also defined is a method of cleaning a filter comprising the magnetic rod and guide, involving isolating inlet and outlet valves of the filter, pulling on the magnetic rod to move it out of the guide to a position where it extends above a filter lid (20, fig 1, 5) and is releasably held by the resilient engagement means, opening a drain and re-opening one of the valves to flush any debris collected in the filter. |
