A phantom 1, used in embodiments in calibration for MRI imaging, has a perfusion chamber 2, comprising a waterproof housing containing a porous or permeable material 7. The material may be sintered high-density polyethylene (HDPE), having channels within, provided to replicate flow through arteries or veins and having a diameter of e.g. 0.5mm-2mm. Channels may extend part way through the porous material. The perfusate is distilled water in embodiments, having an NMR relaxation time preferably similar to human blood, between 1600ms and 1700ms at 3.0T, possibly via addition of copper sulphate. Also claimed are: a reservoir 4 and germicidal device having a UV light 5 for use in a phantom 1; a germicidal device pump mechanism for use in an MRI scanner; a phantom having a pump, perfusion chamber and reservoir or germicidal device; and, a method for calibrating a scanning device via imaging of a phantom. |
