titleOfInvention | Mechanical anti-lock brake system |
abstract | An anti-lock braking system with a rotating crenulated disc 6 having a cylinder shaped bearing 14 sitting on top, which upon actuation causes a pulsating motion in the standard braking mechanism, alternating on and off brake pressure at up to 20 times per second. This will prevent skidding especially under emergency braking, or braking in wet conditions. The anti-lock brake system is actuated when a vehicle user activates the brake lever or pedal, causing the retraction of the brake cable 1, 4, forcing the bearing against the crenulated disc. The bearing is on a small arm 12 and has an axle that moves within the arm. This allows the bearing to travel up and down over the teeth or notches 7 in the rotating disc. The brake system is preferably for use in a bicycle but may be used in vehicles such as cars or motorbike. It can be used on either disc, calliper, or drum brakes 8. |
