titleOfInvention A method of abandoning a well
abstract A method of abandoning a well in a reservoir 12 includes forming a scale in the reservoir by introducing 10 a first solution 4 comprising a first scale precursor, a second solution 5 comprising a second scale precursor and a scale inhibitor 6 by optionally mixing 3 in a manifold 32 with a seawater 30 carrier. The first solution and second solution react together to form the scale to block at least pore necks within the formation. The method further includes the step of at least partially filling the well with cement which may be as concrete. Optionally well perforations may be blocked with a third solution e.g. a silicone, silica materials and a siloxane compound. The first precursor may be a soluble inorganic Group 1 metal salt e.g. sodium or potassium sulphate, carbonate or bicarbonate and the second precursor may be a soluble inorganic Group 2 metal salt e.g. calcium or barium nitrate or halide such as sodium chloride. The inhibitor may be a phosphonate, polyacrylate or polycarboxylic acid polymer, a polycarboxylic acid polysulphonate or a phosphinocarboylic acid salt.
