abstract | A system and a method of continuously separating submicron laminar solid particles from a solid suspension, segregating the suspension into a submicron particle fraction suspension and a residual particle fraction suspension. The method comprises the steps of; providing a continuous centrifuge apparatus, such as a disc stack centrifuge (100); providing a suspension of submicron laminar solid particles in a solid suspension of the submicron solid particles in a liquid continuous phase such as water and separating the solid suspension in the apparatus. Preferably the suspension is introduced to the rotating disc stack centrifuge (100) via an inlet pipe (120), and is accelerated in a distributor (130). Liquid may be discharged through an exit (150) and particles separated from the suspension may collect in a periphery (160) where they may be discharged by means of a gap (180) between a top (190) and bottom (200) of the rotating disc stack centrifuge. The system and method may allow for separation of boron nitride or graphene nano-platelets suitable for use as conductive ink. |
