Provided is a novel lithium metal composite oxide powder relating to a positive-electrode active material containing a lithium metal composite oxide having a layered crystal structure, whereby reaction with a liquid electrolyte is suppressed and the service life characteristics of a cell can be increased, and satisfactory cell output characteristics can be obtained. Provided is a lithium metal composite oxide powder including particles comprising a lithium metal composite oxide having a layered crystal structure, surfaces of the particles being provided with a surface section in which any one or a combination of two or more species selected from the group consisting of Al, Ti, and Zr (referred to as "surface element A") is present, the lithium metal composite oxide powder being characterized in that the surface LiOH amount is less than 0.10 wt%, the surface Li2CO3 amount is less than 0.25 wt%, the ratio of the integrated intensity of the (003) plane to the integrated intensity of the (104) plane of the lithium metal composite oxide in the X-ray diffraction pattern is greater than 1.15, and the S amount measured by ICP is less than 0.10 wt% of the lithium metal composite oxide powder (100 wt%). |
