titleOfInvention | Radio high-performance liquid chromatography |
abstract | A radio high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) detector module 150 comprises an inlet 155 to receive eluate containing a sample of interest from a HPLC instrument, a cell 170 which contains a scintillator, a photodetector 180 for detecting photons emitted by the scintillator and an aperture 190 interposed between the cell 170 and the photodetector 180. The scintillator emits photons in response to being stimulated by radioactive emissions from the sample. The photodetector is configured to generate a signal relating to the number of photons emitted by the scintillator that pass through the aperture. The size of the aperture maybe adjustable. The scintillator maybe a granular solid scintillator material or a liquid scintillation cocktail which is mixed with the eluate in mixer 160 before entering the cell. The photodetector may be a photo multiplier, avalanche photodiode or silicon photo multiplier. The module may comprise a coincidence detector. The module is used to detect chemical species within the sample which have been labelled with radioactive isotopes. |
