abstract |
A retractor assembly 10 comprises a retractor body 20 and a plurality of retractor blades 12, 16, 18 extending generally perpendicularly to the retractor body in an initial non-splayed position. The retractor body is operable to separate the blades relative to each other and to splay at least one of the blades such that a distal end of the blade extends wider than a proximal end of the blade. Splaying of the blade is controlled by a lead screw driven rack and pinion gear (Figure 22) situated in the retractor body. The retractor blades may comprise an exterior slot to receive an electrode. Supplemental blade 15 may be attached via a crossbar. |
