abstract |
An aqueous topical composition is provided comprising (i) phenoxyethanol; (ii) 3-[(2-ethylhexyl)oxy]-1,2-propandiol; (iii) an emulsifier comprising a blend of macrogol and a fatty alcohol; (iv) at least one pH modifier; and (v) at least one hydrocarbon based emollient; the composition being free of parabens and p-chlorocresol. Preferably components (i) and (ii) combined form 0.5 to 2wt% of the composition. The macrogol is preferably an ether formed from the reaction product of a PEG and a fatty alcohol. The aqueous topical composition preferably comprises (i) phenoxyethanol; (ii) ethylhexyl glycerin; (iii) cetostearyl macrogol (cetomacrogol 1000) and cetostearyl alcohol; (iv) at least one pH modifier; and (v) white soft paraffin and mineral oil; the composition being free of parabens and p-chlorocresol. The composition is useful in the treatment of a skin conditions, such as dry skin or eczema. |
