| abstract | An apparatus comprising sensing means 100 fitted to a conduit 40 so as to sense the level of sewage in the conduit substantially at a legal boundary of a building or land on which the building is built, wherein the drain 40 communicates waste from the building to the public sewer 50 across said boundary. A communicating means 30 is arranged to communicate with the sensing means 100 to determine whether the level of sewage in the conduit has reached a predetermined threshold level, and to communicate information indicative of this to a location remote from the building, and optionally remote from the drain 40, i.e. to a private company with responsibility for maintaining the public sewer. A housing for the sensing means 100 comprises a first surface complementing a first conduit surface, and a second surface complementing a second conduit surface, wherein the first surface connects to the first conduit (e.g. via a self-adhesive waterproof pad, lugs and screws) or the second surface similarly connects to the second conduit. |
