abstract Torque capacity T(x) of a clutch 1 of a passenger car with respect to a position (x) of the clutch (1), is determined by: determining (S10) a first acceleration (a1) of the car wherein the clutch (1) is in a first position (x1); determining (S50) a second acceleration (22) of the car wherein the clutch (1) is in a second position (x2) different from the first position (x1); and determining (S60) a torque capacity value (T(x2-x1)) with respect to a difference (x2-x1) between the first and second position (x1, x2) on the basis of a difference (a2-a1) between the first and second acceleration (a1, a2). The clutch may be fully engaged in one position and fully disengaged in another position. A factor relating to the engaged gear of the vehicle may also be applied.
