abstract A vehicle braking unit 10 comprises at least one brake disk 12 and at least one brake disk cover 24 fixed at a distance from the brake disk 12 and configured to at least partially cover the brake disk 12. At least one thermoelectric generator 26, configured to generate electric energy from waste heat of the brake disk 12 is arranged on the brake disk cover 24. The thermoelectric generator 26 may be arranged between the cover 24 and disk 12, with the sink side of the generator 26 being oriented towards the cover 24 and the heat side of the generator 26 being oriented towards the disk 12. The generator 26 preferably extends over more than 180 degrees. The generator 26 may have ceramic first and second plates (34, 36, fig 7); a stamped metallic grid (38, fig 7); thermoelectric elements (42, 44, fig 5) and metallic plates (40, fig 4).
