A pressure-sensitive holographic recording composition is described wherein the composition comprises diacetone acrylamide, glycerol and citric acid. The composition is capable of recording high diffraction efficiency reflection holograms. The diacetone acrylamide provides the pressure-sensitivity, whilst experimental testing has shown that the addition of citric acid and glycerol are required in combination to record high diffraction efficiency reflection mode holograms. The composition enables a holographic sensor to be created in which the observed colour of the hologram produced varies with applied pressure. This property may be used in a variety of applications including colour-change detection, pressure sensors, deformation sensors, strain sensors, diffractive optics, data storage and holographic security devices. |
