abstract |
An emissions control device for a compression ignition engine, preferably for a vehicle, comprises: (a) a first catalyst 1 comprising an electrically heatable substrate and a first composition disposed on the electrically heatable substrate, wherein the first composition comprises alumina and a first platinum group metal (PGM) or gold; and (b) a second catalyst 2 comprising a substrate and a second composition disposed on the substrate, wherein the second composition comprises alumina and a second PGM or gold. The loading of the first composition is less than the loading of the second composition, and the total loading of alumina of the first catalyst may be less than that of the second catalyst. The total loading of the first PGM may be less than the total loading of the second PGM. The catalysts may be separated by an electrically isolating gap. |
