titleOfInvention Flexible pads and shield systems
abstract A shield system, suitable for protecting a curved object 20, comprises at least one flexible pad 1 with a spacing ridge 7 projecting at an angle from a first major surface 3. The spacing ridge 7 provides a spacing between the first major surface 3 and a shield shell 22 and has a support ridge 9 projecting from the first major surface 3and extending transverse to the spacing ridge 7. The support ridge 9 comprises a flexure region 11. In the event of the pad 1 being being curved about an axis aligned with the spacing ridge 7, the flexure 11 unbends enabling the support ridge 9 to extend in an attempt to inhibit strain in the support ridge 9 from causing deflection of the spacing ridge 7.
