abstract An interleaved frequency division multiple access (IFDMA) signal containing user data is spread, in the time domain, using a user-specific code of a user of a serving-cell. A receiver despreads this signal using not only user-specific codes of users of the serving cell, but also using user-specific codes of users of neighbouring cells. This makes it possible for the receiver to detect inter-cell interference information such as inter-cell interference timing and interference power. This interference information can be applied to aid coordinated handover, inter-cell interference coordination or inter-cell interference cancellation.
