titleOfInvention Coupling a transmitter and receiver to a common antenna using a circulator and transmit and receive filters
abstract A device, for use in a transceiver, couples transmit 10 and receive 30 signals to a common antenna port 20. The device reduces leakage of the transmit signal into the receiver path. The device includes a 3-port circulator 100. A transmission filter 12 is coupled between the first circulator port 110 and a transmit signal input 10 to the device, a reception filter 32 is coupled between the third circulator port 130 and the receive signal output 30 from the device. The second circulator port 120 is positioned between the first and second ports and is preferably coupled to an antenna. In one embodiment, a transmission termination unit 40 is coupled to the third circulator port and the reception filter. The transmission termination unit preferably consists of a one quarter wavelength (λ/4) phase delay 42, a second transmission filter 44 and a coupling to earth 46. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 4) the device produces a differential output from the receive signal. In yet another embodiment (Fig. 5), several such devices (CIR1, CIR2, ¦,CIR5) may be incorporated into a transceiver capable of operating in multiple communication protocols, e.g. CDMA and LTE protocols.
