titleOfInvention Geophysical survey method comprising towing streamers which are laterally spaced apart in deep water
abstract A method for geophysical surveying comprises towing at least two streamers 20, 22 laterally spaced apart through a body of water at a depth of at least 25 metres, each of the streamers comprising geophysical sensors 18 which are attached at spaced apart locations, for example for electromagnetic surveying. Submersible deflectors 34 are individually coupled to the streamers which act to maintain lateral separation between the two streamers of at least 150 metres, further depth control devices may be attached to the streamers to ensure that the streamers have a uniform depth, for example â birdsâ or â fishâ . Downward thrust can be applied to the streamers through the use of hydrodynamic depressors (52, fig 5) disposed on lines between the streamers as the survey system is moved through a body of water. The streamers may be attached to a lead-in cable which is connected to a winch 28, the winch allowing the length of the lead-in line or lines to be changed.
