abstract | A method of washing rock samples comprises providing a plurality of sequentially arranged discrete washers 34a, 34b, 34c, 34d, 34e, each of which is spaced from a respective washing position and configured to direct a washing flow of water 35 towards the washing position 36. The method further comprises automatically conveying a plurality of discrete rock samples relative to the washers so that each sample moves in succession through the washing positions for sequential washing by each washer. The rock samples may be samples taken from oil and gas wells. The water used to wash the samples may be collected in each washing position, and recirculated for supply to at least one of the washers. The recirculated water may pass through a filter 46, and over the top of a weir 41. Each sample may be placed in a respective sieve receptacle (25, fig 3), and may be provided with a radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag (20, fig 3). The samples may be dried at a drying module (11, fig 7). |
