abstract | A wet electrolytic capacitor comprising; a metal casing 12 with two edge portions and a end portion defining an interior space; an electrochemically active cathode material disposed on at least a portion of an interior surface of the casing; a sintered, anodized anode 20 positioned within the interior space of the metal casing 12, the ratio of the widths of the anode 20 to the casing 12 is about 0.8 to 1, the anode 20 further occupying about 70 vol.% or more of the interior space; and a liquid electrolyte in electrical contact with both the anode 20 and the cathode 88. Also disclosed is a method for forming a wet electrolytic capacitor comprising a compacted, sintered and anodized body 20 of a powder of tantalum or niobium, or an electrically conductive oxide thereof, such that the body has a length of about 1 to 60 millimetres and a width of about 1 to 40 millimetres; inserting the anode 20 into an interior space of a metal casing 12, the interior surface of the casing 12 is coated with an electrochemically active material; and contacting the anode 20 and the electrochemically active material with a liquid electrolyte. |
