abstract A system for inhibiting the ingress into a building (12) of unwanted gases, especially those escaping from the ground into a basement or of that sub floor region (11) with a gas impermeable barrier (25) defining a void (28) between at least some of the walls (14), (15) and the interior of the chamber, manifold (29) and ducting (33) for introducing a gas at a super-atmospheric or positive pressure into the void and means such as channel (40), sump (41), duct (42), diffuser (43), defining a discharge outlet from the void to the exterior of the building. The manifold having a plurality of delivery outlets (30) for delivering gas into the void at a variety of locations whereby the introduced gas is encouraged to flow through the void as a sheet or carton from the said delivery outlets towards the discharge outlet.
