titleOfInvention | Antimicrobial agent and chelating agent for inhibiting a plant pathogen |
abstract | The use of a chelating agent and an antimicrobial agent that is effective against a plant pathogenic microorganism, such as a bacterium or fungus, to inhibit and/or kill a plant pathogenic microorganism on a plant is claimed. The chelating agent increases the activity of an antimicrobial agent that is effective against a plant pathogenic microorganism. The chelating agent and the antimicrobial agent can be administered to the plant as part of the same composition or separately, either sequentially or simultaneously. The antimicrobial agent may comprise a polypeptide, which can be Blad or an active variant thereof. Blad is a stable and intermediary breakdown product of β-conglutin, the major storage protein present in seeds of the Lupinus genus. A polyamino carboxylate, such as EDTA, is preferably used as the chelating agent. A composition comprising the chelating agent and antimicrobial agent and a method of inhibiting the growth of and/or killing a plant pathogenic microorganism comprising administering to a plant in need thereof said composition are also claimed. |
