titleOfInvention | Low voltage optimized ion chamber |
abstract | A method for measuring high-energy radiation, whether gamma, beta, alpha or neutrons via a moderator and converter. A low voltage (5 20V) is applied to electrodes in an ion chamber filled with a fluid such as He-3 capable of forming ions. An ion current signal is measured in response to a pulsed voltage. A leakage current may be measured at zero voltage and subtracted, or eliminated by pulsing voltage at positive followed by negative polarity and averaging. A gain of an amplifier may also be determined at a voltage ramp. Also described is that the voltage is optimized to the point on the voltage-current response curve providing balance between noise due to higher voltage and maximum current response. |
