abstract | A method of reducing entrainment during operation of a staining device, comprises immersing samples to be stained in a first container filled with a first process medium; determining a speed representative of how fast the samples are to be withdrawn from the first process medium, and/or a period of time to elapse until the samples have been withdrawn from the first process medium and moved over a second reagent container; and withdrawing the samples from the first process medium at the determined speed and/or in such a manner that the samples are located above the second container after the determined time has elapsed. The speed and the period of time are determined by means of an assignment rule (Figure 3) in which each process medium and/or sample are assigned a speed and a period of time, preferably according to a viscosity or class of process media, a type or class of sample, a permitted level of sample entrainment and/or a desired process duration. An example of program that may be used in the staining device for determination of the speed is shown by the accompanying Figure. |
