titleOfInvention Processing system for medical scan images
abstract A method, medical imaging workstation and a hybrid scanner are provided for the analysis of images obtained during medical scans. The extent of a first region of interest (ROI-1) in a first scan image is defined. A second region (ROI-2) in a second scan image is identified. The second region in the second scan image corresponds to the first region of interest in the first scan image. Each spatial locations of the second region (ROI-2) is classified, in order to identify the spatial locations of the second region that comprise at least one tissue type. The first scan image may show biological activity and maybe a Positron Emission Tomograph (PET)or a Single Photon Emission (SPECT)scan image. The second scan image may show structural information and maybe a Computer Tomograph (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan image. The invention may improve the recognition of lesions in medical scan images, and may reduce the incidence of false positives.
