Screening for agents to increase Ndfip1 or Nedd4 levels for the therapy of brain injuries |
abstract |
A non-human animal model characterised by an elevated or preferably reduced (i.e. gene knockout) expression of Ndfip1 or Nedd4 is disclosed for screening for agents suitable for the treatment of neurological conditions such as brain injury wherein the candidate therapeutic agents are chosen for their activity to modulate (preferably elevate) Ndfip1/N4WbP5 or Nedd4 levels to promote neural cell survival by thereby increasing the levels of NDfip1 Nedd4 complex. A method of screening neurological cells is disclosed along with antibodies specific for Nedd4 and Ndfip1 useful for the immunohistological detection of Nedd4-Ndfip1 complexes. |
