abstract A magneto plasma-dynamic (MPD) generator having: a supplier operable to supply a gaseous nuclear fusion fuel 104, such as a deuterium-tritium (D-T) mixture, at velocity; a duct 100 arranged to convey this operating gas; a magnetic field generator arranged to generate a magnetic field 102 across the duct 100 and the direction of travel of the operating gas 104; and electrodes 108 & 110 arranged in the duct 100 to conduct electrical current 106 induced in the gaseous nuclear fusion fuel as it is conveyed by the duct 100 through the magnetic field 102. By short circuiting the electrodes 108 & 110, an electrical current is generated through the fuel in the duct 100 sufficient enough to bring about heating and compression of the fuel (by means of a magnetic pinch) to the point of nuclear fusion of the fuel.
