abstract An X-ray contrast agent composition comprising an iodinated X-ray contrast agent and EDDS (ethylenediamine-N,N'-disuccinic acid wherein the EDDS is predominately in the [S,S] isomeric form and up to 20% weight is one or more of the [S,R], [R,S] or [R,R] isomeric forms. The EDDS may be in the form of a salt such as trisodium-, tetrasodium- and calcium disodium, which may be present in 0.05mg to 0.7mg per g of X-ray contrast agent. Preferably the iodinated X-ray contrast agent is selected from diatrizoate, ioxaglate, iopamidol, iomeprol, iodixanol, iohexol, iopentol, ioversol, iopromide, iosimide, metrizamide, iotasol or iotrolan. Additional complexants/chelating agents such as EDTA (ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid) may also be present. The use of a composition comprising an iodinated X-ray contrast agent and EDDS and a method of diagnosis comprising administration of the composition to the human or animal body, examining the body with a diagnostic device and compiling the data are also outlined.
