abstract | A one or two part organopolysiloxane composition capable of cure to an elastomeric body, the composition comprising: a polymer having a polymer backbone selected from an organopolysiloxane or a telechelic backbone, which polymer has not less than two reactable silicon bonded groups selected from alkenyl, condensable, and silyl-hydride groups; 5 to 50% by weight of an extender; and a cure catalyst; wherein the extender is selected from a phenylalkylsulfonic acid ester having a boiling point of at least 180 °C or a mixture thereof having a boiling point range commencing at 180 °C or above; each ester group having from 2-30 carbon atoms. Preferred extenders are of the form C6H5(CH2)kSO3(CH2)jCH3where k is 1-20 and j is 0-20 and k+j is less than or equal to 30. The composition may optionally comprise a siloxane or silane cross-linker having at least two reactable groups per molecule, and may further optionally comprise one or more fillers. The composition may additionally comprise rheological modifiers, adhesion promoters, pigments, heat stabilisers, flame retardants, UV stabilisers, chain extenders, fungicides and biocides. Further specified are methods of sealing a space utilising the composition of the invention. |
